Janice Knudsen

Library Board of Trustees

For nearly thirty years, Janice has been a resident of Lebanon, where she and her husband, John, raised three daughters. During this time, she has served on numerous boards in the region. For ten years, she volunteered at Otis Library, teaching English to immigrants. Most recently, she became a founding member of the Norwich Refugee Resettlement Group, which welcomed a beautiful Syrian family to the area in January.

Janice is completing her first term on the JTL Board of Trustees, during which time the library moved to temporary quarters and then back into the beautifully renovated building. Other challenges the board faced included a first amendment challenge, a search for a new director, and, of course, the Covid pandemic. Janice sees the library as a source and inspiration for lifelong learning, and as a real hub of the community, drawing large numbers of people to its programs. In her second term, she will continue to support the library’s vision. As a personal mission, Janice will continue to advocate for a visible crosswalk (with lights!) so that patrons can safely cross the street from the Alden Tavern parking lot to the library.
